    Exclamation Bug Report

When installing on my eMachines W3410

    CPU: AMD Athlon™ 64 3200+ Processor (2.2GHz, 512KB L2 cache, 1600MHz FSB)
Operating System: Genuine Microsoft® Windows® XP Home SP2
Monitor: Includes eMachines® 15" LCD Flat Panel Monitor(E14T)
    (15" Viewable, 0.297mm dot pitch)
    Chipset: ATI RS480 chipset
    Memory: 512MB DDR 400 (1 × 512MB) SDRAM (PC3200)
Expandable to 2GB (now have 2GB)
    Hard Drive: 100GB HDD (7200rpm)
Optical Drive: DVD±RW 16x multiformat double layer drive
Media Reader: 8-in-1 digital media manager (Secure Digital™ (SD), Smart Media, Compact Flash, Micro Drive, Memory Stick®, Memory Stick PRO, Multimedia Card, USB 2.0)
    Video: ATI Radeon™® Xpress 200 (PCI-Express® )
    128MB DDR shared video memory
    Sound: AC '97 Audio, Dolby 5.1 (6-Channel)
    Network: 10/100Mbps integrated Ethernet LAN
    Modem: 56K ITU v.92-ready Fax/Modem
Peripherals: Standard multifunction keyboard, 2-button wheel mouse, amplified stereo speakers
    Ports/Other: 7 USB 2.0 (4 in back, 2 in front, 1 in Media Reader), 1 VGA External Connector, 1 Serial, 1 Parallel, 2 PS/2, Audio-In & Out
    Dimensions: 14.25"H x 7.25"W x 16"D
Weight: 22.5 lbs (PC only, no packaging)

when it gets to the part where it is doing the "battery check" it locks up the PC. If I hit "Esc" it shows a terminal window and the PC is stopped at "battery check".

If I try to turn off the PC using the "power" button it goes into an endless cycle of re-booting. If I just unplug the PC Box, let it sit for 30 seconds and plug it back in and hit the power button it reboots back to "battery check" and continues on and the install goes ok after that.

I have done a direct to hard drive dual boot along side Win-XP and a "wubi" install inside Win-XP. same thing happened both ways.

Installing on two "put together" (hobby built not store bought) PCs all went fine. No problems.

Have you partitioned and formatted your hard drive before install?

Question Re: Bug Report & partitions

I have it partitioned now 2/3 is for Windows-XP (whole family uses it) and 1/3 is for Ubuntu installed via "wubi"...
The hang up was both before I partitioned it and after i partitioned and reinstalled ubuntu...both "wubi" and non "wubi" installs.

Alsi I kept getting a "cannot find disk in CD Reader"error on CD reader. kept clicking cancel and or continue until it took it...then install started fine...
Thank you Linus (Linux) brought my PC back to life!
