Did you register your printer with Canon? If so, the code is on the box in which your printer came. That's the only authentication code I can think of.

So after i got the drivers from the cannon website, i copied and pasted the drivers into the terminal and i got "command was not found". Did i input correctly?

Well. I found out that the authentication code is my password for logging in to Ubuntu. However, despite downloading the drivers, and installing them according to the directions on this thread, it isn't working. I turn the printer on, and and Ubuntu says that it ain't there. Any ideas?

Check if the packages provided by Canon are installed

dpkg -l cnijfilter*

The output of this command should look like :

ii  cnijfilter-common                         3.20-1                               IJ Printer Driver for Linux.
ii  cnijfilter-mp280series                    3.20-1                               IJ Printer Driver for Linux.

It looks like it's telling me I need to re-install both of the drivers, if not just the scanner driver. I don't mind doing that, if that's what it takes. However, I have already installed both of them twice.

It says that only cnijfilter-common is installed. You also need to install cnijfilter-mp280series.deb
