firearms are rather rare here; I think statistically it's about 1 in every 8 (or 11, I forget the stats) homes have something... I'm in the burbs (outer city)
And if people think it's firearms; I can't recall seeing many other houses with the mandated bars on windows (to prevent breakin & firearm theft) on neighbors houses - but they may have noted I have it (if they know what that means)...
