I do not recall wildman that I had any issue getting irssi installed in 20.04.

My 20.04 install is old (more a bump in oct 2019), but I test out IRC on Lubuntu QA-installs all the time, so I can say `quassel` works out of the box for a Lubuntu 20.04 install Use Lubuntu

(I use `hexchat` myself, along with a number of older programs from gnome2 days, or xfce etc)
(probably obvious, but the Lubuntu is very tongue-in-cheek)

111, I tried out Lubuntu and Xubuntu in a vm before I installed Mate, Xubuntu in the vm is a lot faster then Mate on bare metal, I have not tried to install irssi yet but I thought about it but I am short on time and energy right now.
