I just noticed in a QA-test the CD/DVD tray didn't eject on booting (impish).. a fix must have been back-ported to the kernel ... then remembered I didn't have to press the 'eject' button on this box when I woke this box up this morning (to un-eject the tray)...

Today won't have been fix day (I've not rebooted this box); so I wonder how many days it's been fixed & I've only just noticed the back-ported code..

Most folks won't notice as their boxes don't have coffee cup holders, I have them but a non-ejecting tray is less noticeable than one that ejects on it's own..

Did some testing on a floppy box today... old sounds you don't often here on those boxes during boot & more (drive activates & spins up floppy as device is probed etc). Calamares don't have issues with floppies any longer, so may get rid of the inserted floppy & return to a quieter box (floppy drive LEDs don't make sound - but the sound isn't common anymore & makes my smile I think).

guiverc: Me too has had CD tray frustration -
    learned ....
Terminal command eject /dev/sr1 opens it, to close the tray> eject -t /dev/sr1

    otherwise
while :; do eject && eject -t; sleep 3; done

I didn't code a workaround for the kernel issue (tray eject); probably good I didn't - as it would now be a problem (given the kernel has now had a fix applied)

    https://github.com/torvalds/linux/co...9ca7e108004faf

This indicated that treating the condition as an EJECT_REQUEST was
appropriate. However, doing so had the unfortunate side-effect of causing
the drive tray to be physically ejected on resume. Instead treat the event
    as a MEDIA_CHANGE request.
(Issue noticed on impish awhile ago (https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+s...x/+bug/1942299 in my original text anyway) but back-ported fix appeared soon after in focal, then bionic - a couple of the duplicates no doubt are actually mine reporting the issue in 20.04.3 (probably) & I know 18.04.6 QA testing)

(there are multiple related issues; one for boot & that one is for suspend, in different parts of the code)

Bashing-om : Your code makes my wonder why ... were you `ssh` attached to another box & wanted to annoy a dog/pet? That would surely kill a tray super fast! (I imagine a dog swiping down with a paw destroying it, or grabbing the tray with it's teeth & no more tray...) Regardless

Naw - seems sometimes in my messing about with .ISOs when I reboot back into the install the kernel wants that the CD tray open. Have yet to track down the cause when it happens.
