Could you be a little more explicit? What exactly are you looking for at Services? Do you have a link to these commands used?

The Services program does not work with Ubuntu 9.10 and later because Ubuntu now uses the Upstart daemon instead of init scripts.

If you see HOWTOs for earlier versions of Ubuntu, you should not follow them because they get outdated very quickly and may cause problems on the later system.
I try to treat the cause, not the symptom. I avoid the terminal in instructions, unless it's easier or necessary. My instructions will work within the Ubuntu system, instead of breaking or subverting it. Those are the three guarantees to the helpee.

Re: how to enable • System -> Administration -> Services

    Thanks for the response:
There were various scripts that require me to use services, one of them is
" Enable the Samba and NFS services
    • System -> Administration -> Services
    • Enable the services by browsing through the list on the left and locating nfs and smb. If they are not already enabled, enable them by clicking the "Enable" button"

And when i see System -> Administration -> Services, i have to look around for commands that i have to write in terminal, and certain times, those command donot work.
There i was looking i there was a terminal command which would enable it, if it was disabled..

Re: how to enable • System -> Administration -> Services

Hi, if you want to modify Ubuntu services,

    Applications > Accessories > Terminal
    Code:
    sudo apt-get install rcconf
    Then run:
    Code:
    sudo rcconf
And disable/enable any services you like. There are plenty of other service managers also besides rcconf, you can browse Synaptic.

You need to install the Samba server. When you do, it will start immediately and run on boot.
