10.04 Installer Cannot find Sata 6.0 Raid

    Hey everyone,

I went to install Ubuntu 10.04 on my home pc last night but I couldn't. The installers could not see my raid and even though I wished to install to a seperate HDD windows is installed to my raid. The windows MBR always overtook the Grub and whenever I start grub up it cannot find an OS or Kernel.

I have got an ASUS Rampage 3 Extreme (http://www.novatech.co.uk/novatech/p...-G0EAY00Z.html) and on it there are two 6.0 sata Marvell connectors: http://www.marvell.com/products/stor...s_pc_consumer/

In these two Marvell connectors are two WD velociraptor 10,00 rpm Raid 0 drives. On these two drives is installed Windows 7. The ubuntu installer cannot seem to see the raid pair and so does not install Grub correctly.

Has anyone had this problem before and if so fixed it?

    Thanks,

ubuntu can't see it because it is fakeraid.

Just see that controller claims to be hardwareRAID.at least the 88SE9128 ......so maybe I am wrong...,but if it would be true hardwareRAID,ubuntu should see just 1 disc.

Re: 10.04 Installer Cannot find Sata 6.0 Raid

    Thanks for the info,

Ah man I might just reorder my computer so the raid sits on normal connectors instead of those stupid 6.0 GB (or as they say) connectors.

Installing into fake raid looks veeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeerrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr rryyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy long.

I was wondering why on normal connectors the raid in the normal connectors was 6.2 on windows index but in the 6.0 connectors it was 5.9 :\ god dammit.

In 10.04, the installer does't see the raid. Now if you insist on seeing it for the install, you have to install from the live cd. When your session is going, open a terminal and type 'sudo apt-get install kpartx'. Close the terminal and immediately start the installer without rebooting. The partitioner in the installer will now see the raid if you select the option to manually select where you want to install. I hope you know what you are doing.
12.10 Quantal w/grub2/Mint13 installed on raid0, Gigabyte AMD MB, AMD 64x4 CPUs at 3.2GHz, 16 GB ram, HD7770 ATI video, dual boot win7 on 64gb ssd and win8 on 1Tb SATA raid. 13.04 installed on raid0 and ssd

That dont sound so hard besides my windows is all backed up externally and on my nas so even if I lose Windows I can get it all back in 1 and a half hours

Thanks for the instructions I'll try them out tomorrow.

Re: 10.04 Installer Cannot find Sata 6.0 Raid

Dammit that didn't work it still don't see the raid.

Most likely my only choice is either to install on fake raid or change the connectors so the raid don't sit on the marvell connectors.

Edit: strangely marvell say there is a Linux driver. Hmm I wonder if I can find it

Edit again: Strangely no they don't hand out drivers for it
