I decided to try the GF-1 after a lot of thought. The LX-5 was really tempting, too.
Basically I don't want a full size SLR because they become a hassle to take places casually, but in that past I've hated compacts because they don't have the aperture or sensors to take photos indoors without flash, but then their flashes suck. So I wanted to try and find something that had a lens in the f1.4-f2.4 range so I can take photos in a variety of lighting conditions (or at least more than with a compact) without flash, and also not have a huge bulky thing to schlep everywhere. So that's why I haven't been keen on full size SLRs. Even the small ones end up really fat because they have to hold their prism/mirror assembly.
I guess I'll find out if it meets expectations next week.
