    Laptops and Dedicated Graphic Cards

I'm in the market for a new laptop with a dedicated graphic cards. It seems the preponderance of choices out there sport ATI cards vs Nvidia, including System 76. Does ATI work better now under Linux? It's always been my experience that the proprietary Nvidia drivers work better than proprietary ATI drivers. Is that still true? I know ATI has been working that issue.

Specifically, Nvidia has VDPAU support which is useful for a MythTV frontend (one of the uses for this laptop). Does ATI have that or something similar now?

Just wondering if I should include the ATI options in my search...
