    install ubuntu from within debian

I have an ancient sony vaio laptop with no cd drive. I am unable to boot from an external cd drive or from usb.it currently has an old version of debian on it. Is there any way to install ubuntu from the hard drive?

let me know if model number from the laptop or the exact debian version number is important, I can track it down if it would be helpful
