    WICD Network Manager - Unable to Connect!!! :@

    Samsung N150 Laptop

    I installed WICD. I can see all the wireless networks, and wired works fine, but everytime I try connecting to a wireless network it says, "Unable to get IP"

    Can someone help me remedy this? I am very new to ubuntu so I have no idea how to do anything...

    When I go to Network Tools, I see:
    Network Device: Loopback interface
    IPv6 - Ip Address: ::1, Netmask: 128, Scope: Host
    Network Device: wlan0
    IPv6 - IP Address ::, Netmask 0, Scope Unknown
    IPv4 - IP 0.0.0.0, Netmask 0.0.0.0

    Help would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!

    What is the output of ifconfig in your terminal? Also, what distribution are you using? To find out, in a terminal type,
    Code:
    lsb_version -a
    .
    I die a little inside every time I need to boot into Vista.

    Re: WICD Network Manager - Unable to Connect!!! :@

    we know now you got atheros and atheros is one of the best chips

    first at all there is a button swich on and off network press it and try to connect to network if u cant connect than press it again and aagain try to connect if it doesnt work follow this steps:

    open this web
    http://wireless.kernel.org/download/...-wireless-2.6/

    and download from the bottom latest driver

    it is called

    compat-wireless-2010-09-01.tar.bz22010-Sep-01 21:03:212.5Mapplication/octet-stream
    u need just one cuz on that page is many drivers theyre all the same there is many cuz this one driver is updated every single day u need just one the latest one from the bottom

    after you download it

    extract it to whatever u want to

    and cd to that directory

    than make
    and sudo make install

    it will take a while cuz in this single driver u will get support for very many wifi and bluetooth devices

    than restart you laptop

    and the new driver will be installed

    after u rebooted try to connect to internet it should work staright away

    but if it doesnt again try to press the wireless button switch in your laptop

    and than try it again if it doesnt work come back

    in the future if u would like to update your driver just download the newer one and do the same as above make and sudo make install
