So, I've installed Ubuntu 10.04 Netbook edition and I've installed and am running the gnome desktop. Is there any way to get rid of the app launcher on the desktop? I hate having a cluttered desktop and its driving me crazy

I believe on the login screen when you click you name, you can select what type of session you want on the bottom panel.
I've done that and installed Ubuntu-desktop. No luck :/

So you selected "GNOME", and it behaved the same as normal?
Edit: "Normal" being a netbook session.

Yea, I mean I was able to edit the gnome panel at the top, but the app launcher is still there

That's odd. Gnome should be a traditional desktop session, Ubuntu Netbook Edition should be a hybrid, and Ubuntu Netbook Edition 2D should be the one your netbook uses by default.
1. you don't need to install "ubuntu-desktop" it already has gnome.
2. if your in gnome, go to system-> preferences-> startup
& remove netbook launcher.
Awesome! Thanks
