MySQL Making Trouble! Help!

i'm a newb at this,
i'm trying to make MySQL to work but keep getting random errors like:

"ERROR 2002 (HY000): Can't connect to local MySQL server through socket"

"ERROR 2002\2003" in navicat

also tried to change the port to 666, didnt work
any information will be given, just ask

How are you trying to connect to mysql, remotely, or locally?

i tried navicat from my LAN
and the command "mysql" locally
