!0.4 upgrade - doesn't complete boot up

Dell Latitude D505 with dual boot to Windows XP professional

Ubuntu 9.10 installed and used Upgrade prompt for 10.4 LTS in "upgrade manager"

Now the boot does not complte. The Ubuntu logo appears then the screen goes black.

Tried revovery mode and got the command line OK. What to do from there?

I got the same problem! Same install, i thought that its a problem with my graphic card (it a realy old one - 64bit integrated). But i cant eaven lounch the recovery mode. Is there a creative solution to this problem - eaven downgrading would be o.k., so i wouldnt lose my data. But i am already downloading xubuntu just in case i have to format everything (xubuntu because my laptop is realy old...). Any help or howto! pls!
