The CUPS package provided by Ubuntu is not compiled with SSL support. However, my uni uses internet printing using HTTPS so I have to compile and install the package myself. I found how to get this working under Ubuntu (http://www.cse.ust.hk/~lkmpoon/linux/ubuntu-hkust.html). However, this means that each time there is a CUPS update I have to re-compile and install CUPS again.

Is there a way to configure my system (Lucid NBR) so that when CUPS has an update the update does not revert to non HTTPS printing so that I do not have to re-compile and install CUPS?

Thanks!
