I have two separate input devices(sound card, and integrated in monitor). The microphone I want to use is the one on the monitor. I can set it manually in the Sound preferences, the problem though is that when the monitor is turned off, or puts itself to sleep it cuts the USB connection and Ubuntu then switches to the internal sound card. When I start working again the integrated mic gets reloaded by ubuntu, however, since it already has the internal line-in selected it won't change back.

It's a pain to have to switch it all the time, so I was wondering if there was an option somewhere to tell Ubuntu to always prefer the monitor mic, or do I would need to write a script to run when it detects the usb monitor mic? This is all on Lucid.

Thanks,
Steve
