Angry 10.0.4 has slowed to a crawl

After upgrading by package manager Ubuntu (10.0.4) just gets slower and slower, it takes seconds for a mouse click to respond and things to close and open, terminal, firefox, gedit, anything just takes forever and I have no clue as to what to do about it, have run diagnostics and of course everything comes up roses, I have also been stuck with the "Busy box" login issue and just type exit to get in but that is not really an issue as I leave the box on 24 hours as it is my web and DNS server for my new business.

I don't know where to go from here and hate to abandon Linux because I hate microsoft, can anybody help me get back up to speed?

Thanks in advance for any help!!!!!

Well i hate to say it but it sounds like the best plan of action would be to backup anything important and reinstall.

Do you know what packages were updated? You should have a log file in /var/log I'm not using Gnome right now, so I'm not sure which one it is though.
Help me out! Go make a dropbox account from this link to get me more space! https://www.dropbox.com/referrals/NTU2ODUyNDY5 (You get the bonus space too!)

"/var/log/messages" and "/var/log/kern.log" would be great places to start.

for that specific issue, run htop (after installing it, of course) and sort by CPU%. see what is eating your CPU cycles up.

Re: 10.0.4 has slowed to a crawl

Sometimes old and new stuff conflict a little. I've been told that running Computer Janitor helps alot after an upgrade. Backup first (just incase, y'know) then try running the Janitor and see if that doesn't speed things up for you. If it's not installed, it's easy with Synaptic to find it and install it.

Let us know how it goes,
    Robin
