Occasional crackling noise in shutdown/restart

I get occasional crackling noise in shutdown/restart in lucid lynx 10.04. It happens once in three times. I tried disabling mic input, changing its volume. One of the thread in my search recommended disabling splash screen.Nothing helped.

Dont know whats wrong. My system is new inspiron laptop. This issue never happens in windows 7. Could someone help me on this?

Yeah, I get this on my HP laptop, I'm pretty sure its pulse audio which is reseting (or failing to reset, or failing to mute) the audio card. Not sure if its been flagged as a bug but it is one (although minor it is irritating.)

My Ibm Thinkpad does this as well on start up but not shut down. I've put it down to the soundcard being recognised and enabled.

I too get this upon startup (10.04, 64bit).

I don't have a solution but I share the same problem (except mine is every time on restart or shutdown). It doesn't annoy me that much but I just want it to stop. HP dv6 running 10.04 64-bit if that helps anyone finding a fix.
