Can an Intel® HD 3000 card work for the compiz fusion effects?

I already have a Gaming desktop and have ubuntu set up prefectly the way I want to. I love it, and am about to purchase a laptop nothing big just a standard decent laptop.

When I buy this I was considering deleting Windows 7 and putting Ubuntu as my only Operating System. With that being said, I was just curious would the graphics card that comes with it be able to work for the effects on compiz fusion including Unity?

I can run Unity(11.04) and before that full Compiz with 3d effects (Ubuntu 10.04 and 10.10) smoothly on a 6 year old Dell Latitude D410 which has an ancient Intel card and barely 1 G of ram.

IMO all these talks about Unity requiring super powerful hardware to run are vastly exaggerated. They are most likely from people who are using decades old machines or have some graphic card issues. Anything that you can even put Win7 on would be more than powerful enough to run Unity unless you have some graphic card issues.

Yeah I didn't think it was going to take much, and from my search in a laptop It looks like the Intel HD 3000 is pretty much the new standard.

Well, thank you for the quick reply!

The integrated HD 3000 that comes in the new Intel "i series" would be more than capable of running Unity... The only problems I could see you having would be where it is relatively new it may be hard to get drivers completely working

With a little searching I was able to find these two links that may help you if you decide to get this laptop

Hi, I did a search and here is a link for that card.

Many people are having trouble with that card.

You can do a search for it on google include ubuntu and you will see many results.
