    Commonly used and favorite apps

I noticed it's a bit dead here so instead of necroposting I decided to start a new thread, i'm just gonna shoot out some of my favorite apps that I use on a regular basis, maybe we could all find something new by sharing our favorite apps with one another... maybe... or maybe it will just be another list of apps everyone knows already. you never know

here's my list in no particular order of favor

    tweetdeck desktop | twitter
    Skype | voip
    screen | virtual terminal multiplexer
    irssi | irc
    alpine | email
    deluge | bittorrent
    chromium | browser
    filezilla | ftp client
    subsonic | web-based media streamer
    boxee | media center
    recordmydesktop | screen capture
    vidalia | tor gui

I'd like to record my desktop but it always ends up with a lag in the recording. I've used recordmydeskop, istanbul, and something else - all with the same lag. Anyway, my list:

digiKam - great if you have a lot of photos.
compiz and cairo dock - eye candy but not too much...
hulu desktop - finally not lagging
skype and pidgin - work together
lmms - a home recording studio

Oh yeah - have you guys installed chromium or google chrome? Any good?

I would avoid Chrome by Google. I found myself going back to Firefox. I think the stability of especially Ubuntu 10.04LTS leads to boredom which usually means exploring and trying something different until it breaks such as a Windows dual boot. If I had left my 10.04 alone it would have never crashed my computer (XP). Does anyone have the same experience with 10.10 that I did. FSpot was eliminated and Shotwell would not recognize most of my pictures that FSpot had no trouble with and several other programs I use as a normal user malfunctioned or didn't work at all. I am trying to learn programming using the learning path of a power user and building a skill portfolio of programs that I know. Any good recommendations?

I like digKam and showfoto. Uhh...I did an install for someone and now they're mad that they can't play yahoo games. What do I need (or thread to read) to do to get yahoo games working?

I like Minitube. It's a bit retro looking but it's helped me in many a YouTube bind.

BTW; I'm using Linux Mint (based on Precise) with MATE so modify Q/A accordingly if applicable.
