Laptop INCOMPATIBILITY List.

Only one (1024x768 4:3) resolution available. I need 1366x768 resolution 16:9.

4) blank screen on usb boot. it boots fine, but as soon as it goes the splash screen (i assume) the screen seemingly turns off, but i know the system is still running because i can hear the startup sound

hi guys i'm havin acer 4736 laptop
jus now installed ubuntu 11.10 and the display is not working when it is booted in normal mode
but it is working in the recovery mode....please help me with this . The same problem occurred when i used ubuntu 11.04....
then i came to the forums and tried the solution suggested but it didn't woked...
if any one can please give me the step by step procedures to recover from this problem

Alienware M15x (configured with i5-540m and gtx 260m) running Ubuntu Lucid Lynx 10.04 LTS

Most to least critical:

1. No fan control (fan seems to always run at lowest setting)
2. No CPU temperature readings
3. No sensors apart from Nvidia and SMART temperatures

"sensors-detect" finds nothing, there really should be basic support for my CPU and chipset.

The kernel does find some cooling devices, but "/proc/acpi/fan" is empty (dmesg output):

4. Wireless internet is experienced in bursts. After 30s~1m of connectivity follows a period of 1m~5m without it. DHCP works fine, wireshark displays several packets received regarding other computers, but packets incoming from my laptop are inexistent when connectivity does not exist. As far as I can tell, the problem does not exist with every wireless routers or access points. With 802.11n routers this problem is experienced. With 802.11b/g routers the wireless connection displays connectivity at all times.

[EDIT] (The first time this problem aroused, connectivity in Ubuntu came and went, while a VM running Win7 on VirtualBox with a bridged connection holds connectivity).

i can't enabling desktop effect in this machine, until now i can't figure out how to fix it.
maybe some advice from you guys will make it. i need help, really!

I have 11.04 installed on this computer and everything seems to work fine. No issues with sound, web cam, touchpad, sensors, or video.

I have tried to run 11.10 using many different configurations but they all fail on video. Nomodeset keeps the video output from dieing but there is no GUI and it will not load the kernel modules for the Radeon.

11.10 is a broken release compared to 11.04.

Problems: Touch sensitivity wireless button locks up and can't be activated again.

When I connect to a monitor via HDMI, there is no audio when HDMI output sound is selected.
Another problem is the suspend does not work.
