    Unhappy 10.04 Lucid won't install. :(

I'm running an AMD 64 system with 4 gigs of ram, and only have 32 bit windows. Since the update to Lucid I have yet to have it work properly. Every time I've tried to install it it ether over wrights my boot file, and I lose windows (a few programs I have to have in there)when I try a standard install or it fails to boot when I do the Wubi install. Is there any where I can re download the previous 46 bit version? I seam to have lost the ISO.

You shouldn't be overwriting a windows partition through the desktop installer. If you mean you simply don't see the option, it's put at the bottom of the list by GRUB 2.

What do you mean by "previous 64 bit version"? Are you talking about karmic, or do you think that your download of the iso was bad?

If you're looking for the lucid iso, Here's the link. Maybe this time try torrenting instead of a direct download.

    http://www.ubuntu.com/desktop/get-ubuntu/download

    and here's Karmic:

    http://releases.ubuntu.com/9.10/

And if you do a native install, you need to let the boot sector be written to as the windows bootloader does not like native linux installations. As for why wubi is failing, you got me.

Make sure you defrag windows before doing an install, though. It will still want to do a check disk operation, but that's the standard MO.

To make things easier for you in the coming future, I would recommend you to use 2 harddrives instead of letting Windows and Linux share the same harddisk.

Changing harddrive priority in BIOS always makes you decide what operating system which is gonna boot up and it's a stable and robust solution, not as elegant though, but it works.

http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/ seems to be what you're looking for. Click on Lucid. Or you can just get it from the Ubuntu homepage.

Thanks, I was looking for Karmic. The Idea about 2 hard drives would work if I didn't have my second hard drive filled with work. lol
