    New To Websites

I have a small 4 page html based website that I am tinkering with and would like to know how to either password protect a page or the entire website. I am a noob with security and would appreciate the replies to reflect that point.

Sorry for being so vague. I do not know how else to word my request.

    Regards

    J

Use apache webserver and configure for http based authentication.
For more security configure for https protocol.

For more info see the apache webserver's docs.

If you are using Apache Web Server, look for how to configure .htaccess, that's a file you put in a folder, and it performs a lot of things, including password protecting.

There's something about it here (http://helpdesk.bluehost.com/index.php/kb/article/115), to get you started. But I think some more research will be necessary. I don't know if it's enabled by default in Apache.
