Re: Toshiba A665 Laptop -- Illuminated Backlit Keyboard

Well, I read through the entire thread hoping to get a resolution to the backlight problem...

I'm on a Toshiba x775-3dv78. I love my laptop except for that one issue.

Bump again. Just read through the whole thread. I can verify that the Windows Hibernation method works to enable the backlight on my a660. Is it possible that windows is running some kind of initialization at boot that enables the keyboard functionality? There must be some way to figure out what it's doing, I just don't know enough to extract that information.

I would really like to have a resolution to this issue once and for all. Can we please get a dev/hacker on board with this thread?
Although it may not seem it, having a backlight on the keyboard is very important for many people and this should be a trivial problem to solve for someone well versed in the kernel.

It's especially frustrating for me since it worked for months and then suddenly disappeared.

Well, I have some good news! I upgraded to 12.04 and found a modicum of advancement in our lighted keyboard issue.

Yep, if you hit Fn+z an indicator pops up for the keyboard backlight!

The bad news is its still not working...but maybe soon?

Huh, that's odd. I even get it when running the 12.04 Ubuntu live disc. It must be Unity DE. Do you have any other Fn key functionality in Kubuntu?

Yes, all others seem to work. The various function keys work and even Fn 3 & 4 work for sound. (You know I just now noticed, while typing this message, the "light keyboard" icon on the z key!) Yeah, maybe the Gnome folks are ahead of KDE? Phooey....

I have just got a Toshiba P770 because it had an iluminated keyboard. Yes Fn Z brings up an icon. No it does not light up my life!
