    Before uninstalling Wubi, did you install the grub bootloader yet? Because you're booting it from Wubi's grub menu - and that will be gone when you uninstall Wubi.

    Maybe rerun that bootinfoscript first. I am a little puzzled because - according to your last bootinfoscript - your windows bootloader is in /dev/sda, but windows is on /dev/sdb. And from what you are saying in the grub prompt you are using hd0 but /dev/sdb5.

    Normally, you would install the grub bootloader to the same drive e.g. from the migrated Ubuntu (not Wubi) run:

    sudo grub-install /dev/sdb
    and then you'll see the migrated install as the first entry when you boot up.

    No haven't installed grub from the new install yet.

    I am a little puzzled because - according to your last bootinfoscript - your windows bootloader is in /dev/sda, but windows is on /dev/sdb. And from what you are saying in the grub prompt you are using hd0 but /dev/sdb5.
    A little puzzled is an understatement from this end!

    Anyway, here's the new output from bootinfoscript (not wubi). Cheers!

    Just to prove the installation of a boot loader on the WinXP (sdb) drive, I disconnected the DATA drive and the computer booted into the Windows bootloader the same as it always did. I also ran a new boot_info_script for comparison if that helps...

    It looks like you have a custom bootloader on /dev/sdb. Usually that'd be an OEM bootloader (i.e. dell, compaq, hp) that has some built-in code e.g. to support special function keys - maybe to kick off a restore.

    So - it probably doesn't matter to overwrite, but if you're concerned you should back it up. And then install grub to /dev/sdb

    I'm glad you've got this sorted. And the rest of the bootinfoscript looks good.

    PS I think I have the grub update problem resolved now. To be more precise, it is working in limited testing on the development release (pun intended). Anyway - I removed the link to the Multi-partition-alpha script as it is out of date - anyone interested in following development can review the experimental branch on github.

    Yes - it works. I use it to move around my partition installs and to keep bootable backups.

    really? nice. great script! Yesterday I used Gparted to copy my partition to m external then booted from livecd to install grub2. With this script, next time I backup all I need to do is run this script. Thank you very much
