    If you are looking for a blunt answer......... Desktop.
    Processor: Intel Atom N270 @ 1.6GHz. RAM: 1GB DDR2 @ 667MHz. HDD: 160GB @ 5,400rpm. Wifi: Atheros b/g/n @ 2.4GHz. Display: 1240x600 @ 60Hz. GPU: Intel 945GME. Performance: Flawless.

    If everything is equal, a desktop would be faster. 3.5'' desktop HDDs are faster than laptop 2.5'' (or smaller) drives, desktops tend to have faster CPUs, faster RAM, etc.

    That said, a laptop with an SSD will boot faster than a desktop with a HDD, but thats not anywhere near equal
