Unhappy RTL8187SE Wireless LAN Controller is not playing nice with Lucid Lynx

For days I have trying to connect my Toshiba Satellite L455D running Ubuntu-10.04-desktop-i386 to an HP Officejet 6500 Wireless All-in-One Printer - E709n. I have the accursed RTL8187SE Wireless LAN Controller in my laptop. My laptop can see the printer but can't connect to it. I can't connect to it with an ad-hoc connection. It is very annoying because it is impossible for me to print without taking the USB cable and plugging it into my laptop. Someone please tell me how to either get the RTL8187SE Wireless LAN Controller to behave properly or swap it out for something that will..

Can someone point me in the right direction?
I'm going to try to install the windows 7 driver to Ubuntu 10.04 because I can still connect to my printer extremely well on my windows 7 partition.

I had a change of plans. I decided that Realtek's products suck and I am just going to get another Wireless LAN card.
