smbclient not working with windows 7

I have been using Ubuntu for a while now and have never run into something like this that I haven't been able to find on the forums. My problem is quite similar to this post http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.p...dows+smbclient

    Description:

I have a Windows 7 x64 machine and a Ubuntu 10.04 Server machine. I also have a share called "stuff" on the Windows machine. I can run the following command and it mounts the share successfully :

    Code:
    sudo mount -t cifs //windows_machine/stuff -o user=usr,password=pswd /path/local/folder
However, if I run smbclient it fails with this error
session setup failed: SUCCESS - 0
The command I run is :
    Code:
    smbclient //192.168.1.101/Stuff/
I tried running that command with -d10 option to get the debug output and here it is:

    Furthermore, running
    Code:

    also returns an error:
session setup failed: SUCCESS - 0
I would really appreciate some thoughts on this issue ...

From my reading online it seems that this may be a windows vista/7 problem that they have introduced ... but still looking to see if anyone knows a way around this?

Re: smbclient not working with windows 7

I have the same issue. A call to mount.cifs successfully mounts the Windows 7 share, but a call to smbtree does not list the share and an attempt to access it using smbclient also fails, with log messages exactly as posted by the originator of this post.

Same problem here. I'm getting crazy with this problem. I already tried tweaking so many settings and I get always da same result.

Uso mount with cifs works but using GVFS from Nautilus and smbclient don't.

Is there any workaround for this??

    Exactly the same problem here.

This bug (patched) seems to be the root cause: https://bugzilla.samba.org/show_bug.cgi?id=7577

How do I apply this patch because smb client is still not working for me?

Re: smbclient not working with windows 7

I know this is old but I just had this problem too. Once I turned on debug level 2 in the smbclient command line, I had better error messages to google. I eventually found these:

    https://bugzilla.samba.org/show_bug.cgi?id=7577
    https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=651722
    http://www.mail-archive.com/backuppc.../msg20377.html
    http://fubar.school.nz/techblog.php?action=show&id=59

So, if patching and rebuilding samba on the backup server isn't an option for you (or upgrading... seems broken in samba 3.3.2, fixed in 3.5.8 but not sure exactly when in there it happened) , another work-around might be un-installing Windows Live Essentials on the Windows 7 clients.
