Most used server OS

Hello,

I have just started using Ubuntu Server. I hope anyone can help me in something I need to know, but I cannot find on Google.

1) How is the ranking of the most used server operating system (Ubuntu Server, Solaris, Windows Server, FreeBSD,...?

2) Which kind of OS do Google, Facebook, Yahoo, Twitter (the biggest servers) use?

Well, Google uses a very speicalized version of Linux that they use internally only... Not sure about the other guys, google it maybe? Haha.

As for highest ranked, distrowatch.com is probably the most accurate listing, but I wouldn't consider ANY list of OS usage even remotely accurate. Just too many factors to even come close to being accurate.

Distrowatch does all OS iterations, not just server...

Take a look at netcraft if you'd like to know what specific public web servers are running.

I heard it was almost a complete rewrite of Linux! Very specialised indeed.
