    Question Sony Vaio Z-Series support

    Hello everyone.

My Toshiba died today, and while malfunction doesn't seem serious I decided that time is right for an upgrade.

For a while I've been looking at Sony Vaio Z series. Web site says model number is VPCZ1190X. While I do understand that this is probably newest model in that series and hardware is probably not fully supported in Ubuntu am still willing to give it a try.

I am long time Ubuntu user and Windows is absolutely out of the question. Haven't touched that stuff in years, so Ubuntu is a MUST.

    Here are the specs:
    Code:
    Processor: Intel® Core™ i5-540M
Hard disk: SSD 128GB, raid 0
    Memory: 4GB DDR3-1066
    Graphics: NVIDIA® GeForce® GT 330M GPU (1GB VRAM) with Intel® Graphics
    Chipset: Intel® HM57 Express Chipset
    Audio: Intel® High Definition Audio
Other hardware specifics I didn't find on Sony web site. Essentially, I need WIFI and LAN to be fully functional. Power management is important but I can live without it (if suspend is not supported, backlight changing, etc.). I don't need bluetooth.

Am hoping to hear some of your experiences with this series or laptops with similar hardware.

    Thank you!

I'm actually currently trying to install 10.04 onto the same Laptop you just described above, ran the 64-bit live cd and all my graphics were messed up. from what I've read it should be possible to correct that by changing graphics drivers, but I've also read that sony's product compatibility with ubuntu sucks *thumbs down*.

I'll let you know if I have any luck getting it to work though!

Not much of a MSI fan... If I have to give up on Sony, I'll just go with Toshiba again!
