Hi,
I have a Lenovo T42 with ipw2200. It continues to prompt for the WEP key as if it is incorrect however it is not (copied straight from the router - wired in).
Anyone have any trouble like this on 10.04?
Thank you.
Kevin

Is it HEX, ASCII or a password? How many characters is it?

look WEP key is cracked in less than 2 minutes use WAP2 at least, which has been cracked too, but at least it took way longer than 2 minutes. I mean i can crack wep in less than 2 mins so just get something else .. ; )
Intel Core i5 CPU 750 oc@3.75GHz - Asus P7P55D - Nvidia GTX 260
My POS old @$$ WAP doesn't support WPA so its better than nothing. Key is inputted as HEX characters though I also tried the passphrase. I have the key in the /etc/networking/interfaces file right now:
auto eth1
iface eth1 inet static
address IP
netmask MASK
gateway GW
wireless-essid SSID
wireless-key KEY_IN_HEX
wireless-channel #
Thanks.
Kevin
How many characters, please?
Configuration in /etc/network/interfaces is difficult to impossible to get working with Network Manager running on the system. Is it running or have you removed it?

its still running.... should I clear out what I have then? I input the key into NM as well and it continues to prompt. 26 hex chars for the key.
Thanks
Kevin
I suggest you at least comment out the eth1 stanzas in interfaces. Then input the 26-character HEX key in Network Manager and you should connect. If not, you can get some clues in /var/log/syslog.
It might take a reboot.

WNIC refused to work. Ended up swapping and now I am all set.
Thanks for your help.
Kevin
I am having just the same problem but cant understand your last message. What is WNIC? My system (Intel 2200bg/ToshibaM45/10.04 works fine w/o key, but refuses to read the key, when all other computers do??
I had another laptop available and used that instead. I chalked it up to the laptop being so old that the Wireless NIC just wouldn't work. Got a different laptop, installed 9.10 and haven't had a problem.
Sorry I can't be more help then that.
