We never seem to build a team to compete but build a team around one player.
Canada does that with our (men's) Olympic hockey teams too, and occasionally we actually win. And other times we... well, don't.

As weird as it may be, having Beckham injured might be a good thing; it removes some of the "Oh, we'll just stand around and let Becks do all the work" attitude from the players and forces everyone else to step up a little bit more.

Generally though, from what I've seen in the past few Euros and World Cups, England usually looks a group of individual players running around, and not an actual team that works together consistently.

I was a bit disappointed to see that the bulk of the action will be in Jo'burg. Cape Town's the best place on Earth. We have the sea and mountains (Table Mountain at that!) and a ton of cool stuff to do beside soccer. What does Jo'burg have? Slag heaps and crime... big whoop

I'm not a big fan of local games, but I enjoy the World Cup. Well, football is the Brazilian national sport. This freaking country practically stops to watch the games. This year, even the Banks will be changing business hours according to game schedule. Can you believe that?
Sounds good to me. Many countries would like to do this but try to play it serious. Better this than people being at work and not actually working because they watch the football.

I wish I could post a poll, but there are 32 countries and not enough slots. So which country do you think will win the cup?
No idea but I hope it will be Greece. Not likely though.

By the way here's an interesting bit of information: in the players lists submitted to FIFA England is the only country where every player on the list plays for a club in his home country. Germany and Italy have only 1 player playing outside their home country , all other teams have several.
