RavensKrag. Ejecting the optical drive with the eject button above the keyboard(or any other key) doesn't work for me neither. The only way it works is typing 'eject' in a terminal. Did you try this?

I've just updated using the below packages, and can confirm that the following are fixed:

    Battery charged/ACPI problem
    Brightness problem
    Suspend problem

Hope this helps, it helped me:

I've got the Acer 4820T laptop (without the ATI card) and I'm also having the battery/acpi problems. I'm running the default 2.6.34 kernel drivers. How can I install "TimelineX-ACPI-fix.patch" from the link above?

I think this patch is meant to be applied when building a new kernel. You should instead install these packages(they contain the patch):

    linux-headers-2.6.35-7-generic_2.6.35-7.11~lucid1.3v1ubuntu2~toi2_amd64.deb
    linux-headers-2.6.35-7_2.6.35-7.11~lucid1.3v1ubuntu2~toi2_all.deb
    linux-image-2.6.35-7-generic_2.6.35-7.11~lucid1.3v1ubuntu2~toi2_amd64.deb

Thanks to Treviño for building them.

With this kernel you could also switch / turn-off the video card using the switcheroo sys-node (more here) reducing a lot the power usage.
Thanks Trevino for your help in setting up my 5820TG for work with Ubuntu. Pretty much everything is up, including battery which is awesome. However, my battery life barely lasts 2 hours running ubuntu. I read up the article you posted (http://asusm51ta-with-linux.blogspot.com/),as well as http://forum.ubuntu-it.org/index.php...tml#msg3101266 and I couldn't make out what I was supposed to do. I wouldn't mind running the intel graphics at all times since it has low power consumption. Could you explain how to perform the switch functionality?

Awesome, fixed my battery problems as well.

However I got a package problem, "the package bcmwl-kernel-source failed to install or upgrade". Does anyone no a fix for that?

Will this issue (battery) also be solved in ubuntu version 10.10, is this known by the developers?

    The bcmwl problem:
I also had this problem and didn't manage to get it working properly.
What I did: I just reinstalled Ubuntu and the first thing I did after that was installing Trevino's maverik kernel. Then the ethernet worked out of the box and I only had to install the wireless driver with jockey.
    Hope this helps.

If I can't get it to work with jockey, I'll install Ruf's kernel. Thanks for posting that up again.

Could you point out a FAQ (website) of jockey? I'm not familiar with it.

Re: Acer Aspire 4820TG TimelineX Thread

    Hi

Thanks to everybody helping out in this thread, without you my new 5820TG would have been a Windows 7 brick on my desk.

The only thing that still irks me is the lack of wifi. I did not come working out of the box so I tried meddling around. I think it's only a matter of a missing driver, but I am a noob so any help is greatly appreciated.
I have tried both rufferson's and Treviño's kernel without any luck. When using both of them, selecting System/Administration/Hardware_Drivers and enabling the "Broadcom STA wireless driver" yields an installation failed prompt with a log file:

    Code:

Re: Acer Aspire 4820TG TimelineX Thread

Have you flashed your BIOS to the latest version (1.15)? That's what I did with my 5820TG. Wifi is working great after Trevino's kernel was installed. Main observable issues I'm having is quick battery drain and the inability for drive eject. Still waiting for assistance on these issues guys!
