Hello, I am using amd64 ubuntu 10.04. My problem is that whenever I change desktop backgrounds, after about 1 - 3 mins, the background just fades into the default color you pick for your desktop. Anyone have an idea as to what might be happening?

Has anyone seen this problem before?

Are you working on the system or is this when the system is idle?
It happens whether or not I'm working - I've done some testing with stopwatch and it has given me times between 50 secs and 2 mins for the same background, and I don't know why it's doing it at different intervals. Also, I tried seeing if it only changed when I minimized or maximized a window, but that doesn't seem to affect it either.

I take it you're manually changing backgrounds, i.e no wallpaper switcher application?
And where are your wallpapers stored?
Yes, I don't really need an application, I just want to be able to set a background and not have it fade after a few minutes. My wallpapers are stored in ~/Pictures/wallpapers.
Have you tried moving your wallpapers to a new folder say, ~/Wallpapers. Ideally it would be nice to drop them into the root background folder to see if this problem persists. The only other thing I can think of might have to do with the permissions set on these wallpapers, but surely not every one would be affected. Other than that...
Okay, I moved the wallpapers to the root folder and checked and reset the permissions... still no change. I also installed a background changer(wally) and they still faded after a while, but at least they're changing.
