    10.04 and HP Deskjet D1660

I installed 10.04 and it works well. Trying to print however yields no results with an HP Deskjet D1660. In System > Administration > Printing it is shown as a Deskjet D1600 Series which was correct for Ubuntu 9.10. Whenever I try to print a document it goes into the job queue (Applications > Accessories > Manage Print Jobs) and completes there but it never outputs to the printer. When I am in the printers properties and I cycle the power off on the printer it does update the status on the screen saying the printer is now off. When powered on the status again updates to the proper "idle." I have tried restarting the CUPS server but am at a loss on how to troubleshoot the printer. Everything is standard as installed by Ubuntu 10.04 LTS. Any help would be much appreciated.

    Hi,

when trying to install the newer HP driver for my d1660 deskjet I am getting the messege:

Could not open the file /home/neptune/Downloads/hplip-3.10.9.run.

gedit has not been able to detect the character encoding.
Please check that you are not trying to open a binary file.
Select a character encoding from the menu and try again.

Does anyone know what to do here??

    Cheers, Tristan
