    10.04 X Resolution

I've just install 10.04 x64 onto a Dell Latitude E5500 and am having problems with X11. The display adapter is a standard Intel Mobile 4 Series.

When Ubuntu starts up and gets to the login screen, the login window isn't visible. If I log in blind, the system appears to be using a wide display (2288x900, instead of the laptops native 1440x900). Opening the Monitors applet fixes this immediately though. The xorg log shows it finding all the correct resolutions supported, but it then allocates the randomly sized framebuffer!

Any ideas, other than creating a manual xorg.conf? One doesn't exist at all at the moment, but I'm guessing that's default/new in 10.04?

I've not as yet, but I'm thinking of just creating a xorg.conf file which sets the resolution..

    Re: 10.04 X Resolution

You can generate an xorg.conf file by running:

    'sudo Xorg -configure'

However, before running this command make sure you know the specifications of your gpu and monitor.
