    10.4 no volume control applet

    Good morning!

I just upgraded to the official 10.4 release. Everything works fine except for that I don't get a volume control applet in the notification area of my panel. All other notification area applets work fine. I can still change the volume with keyboard controls.

I found a description on how to start the old volume control applet in this thread: http://newyork.ubuntuforums.org/show....php?p=9015573

Though, I'd prefer to get the new 10.4 volume control. Anyone has an idea why it might not be working? Anyone experiencing the same problem?

    cheers!

After installation i removed totally that panel from top of the screen and put all needed
in the bottom one. I also didn't first found volume indicator, but after adding "Indicator Applett" it appeared there along with e-mail and bluetooth indicators.

Re: 10.4 no volume control applet

I have the same problem since alpha. with RC, I had back nm and screen icons but no volume control. I searched many times but "alt+f2 => gnome-volume-control-applet " is the only solution that I have found.

@KeLa, I was using indicator applet as u mentioned but I think it is really useless.

I'm also waiting for another solution.

I found this when I was in search of a resolution to the same problem. And it seems to work:

go to System > Preferences > Startup Applications

in the startup tab, look for 'Volume Control' and check it if its unchecked.

If its not there, 'Add' it using the following parameters:

    Name: Volume Control
    Command: gnome-volume-control-applet
    Comment: Show desktop volume control

    ...and then restart....

I did it but it comes with strange volume icon, not my icon set.

Your answer for me was spot on. Thanks so much inameiname for a simple plain English fix - spot on! :
