    Ubuntu 10.04 and Nvidia cards

Hello everyone. I am having a big problem. I just installed the newest Ubuntu, 10.04 I believe the number is. It found my video card driver without a problem. it asks me to reboot. I reboot, and I get an error telling me that Ubuntu has to run in low graphics mode. So then, when I open the software for my graphics card, I get this...

You do not appear to be using the NVIDIA X driver. Please edit your X configuration file (just run `nvidia-xconfig` as root), and restart the X server.

I do not know what to do in order to fix this. Can anyone please help me? Thanks.

on top panel, goto system --> admin --> synaptic and search for nvidia

you might have these packages installed:

    - nvidia-current
    - nvidia-common
    - nvidia-current-modaliases

as lucid dont need xorg.conf by default, into console run:

    sudo rm -f /etc/X11/xorg.conf

    reboot

then goto system --> admin --> hardware driver, to see if nvidia-current is activated, you should have now your full resolution.

Try this from a terminal ~$ sudo apt-get install nvidia-current

    After it installs reboot again.

    Similar symptoms.

In Kernel 2.6.32 I'm stuck with lower resolution graphics with the "You do not appear to be using the NVIDIA X driver..."

In Kernel 2.6.31 I get the chance to reset my graphics configuration. After doing that I get full 1920 x 1200 resolution. I also show no proprietary drivers in use after a restart.

Thank you. Unfortunately, it is still not working. I was so hoping I would be able to get Ubuntu working with this new version

    sudo dpkg-reconfigure jockey
    sudo dpkg-reconfigure nvidia-current

watch .xsession-errors and logs (system - admin - log viewer)

I got an error saying that jockey was not installed. The other command went through, but still, my graphics is not working.
