    rubyripper problems - lucid ruby 1.8 / 1.9 / libgtk2-ruby

I've been using rubyripper quite happily on Karmic, now I've moved to Lucid and discovered a bit of an issue.

rubyripper will pause for several minutes between tracks with ruby 1.8. If I upgrade to ruby 1.9.1 the gui client won't run due to an issue with libgtk2-ruby not being available for 1.9.1.

The cli version of rubyripper under 1.9.1 is blazingly fast, so that is what I'm using at the moment, but I do prefer the gui.

Anyone have any insight into this? Googling suggests there may be a bug in ruby 1.8.7 that caused the long pauses, but it was supposed to have been fixed in 1.8.7.249 i.e. the default Lucid version.

Just upgraded to 10.04 and I'm getting exactly the same problem.

    No solution yet.

    Re: rubyripper problems - lucid ruby 1.8 / 1.9 / libgtk2-ruby

I tried installing rubyripper from the ppa and while it appeared to work, I couldn't find the app to run it, I'm on Kubuntu if that makes any difference. I had ruby 1.8 installed and ran into the same problem you did. So I installed ruby1.9.1, and running the cli script it doesn't rip anything, it just creates the folder, .cue and .m3u files and then exits. This is the log:

    Re: rubyripper problems - lucid ruby 1.8 / 1.9 / libgtk2-ruby

Sorry fatboab, after installing 1.9.1 I tried to run the gui client and it failed, so I tried running the gui via terminal and it complained about the missing ruby-gtk2 library. I just typed rrip_cli to run the in the terminal from then on.

You can set the options if you start rrp_cli with the drive empty.

Mine is set for flac encoding options --best -V

I installed ruby 1.9 and changed the /usr/bin/ruby link to point to it to make it the default, and rrip_cli works fine now. I pretty much always rip with the same parameters so this works well for me.

    Re: rubyripper problems - lucid ruby 1.8 / 1.9 / libgtk2-ruby

I was a happy user of Rubyripper using Hardy.

Now I'm using Lucid and running Rubyripper is quite a nightmare.
I've tried version 0.5.7 and 0.6 and the same issue: "Analizing files for mismatching chunks" takes forever...

I was used to take 5 to 10 minutes to encode a single CD now it takes one hour and a half !!!!
