Re: Welcome to the Forums - Introduce yourself here

I can't believe I've been googling these boards for so long and only decided to register today.

I'm a cynic. Cold and embittered after 20 years of the IT dev grindstone. No OS satisfies me completely. In fact, the mainstream ones are like the beauty you committed to in your 20s but slowly turned into the marriage from hell.

And there in the distance, always present, beckoning like these mermaids on the rocks, were the distros. "Free!" they cried out to me "Free as in beer!"

Free beer? Mermaids? What more could a man want? One click and an ISO later and that vicious cycle started again. The infighting, the acrimonious splits. This stuff is better than a geeky soap opera.

    But really, I love it.

Re: Welcome to the Forums - Introduce yourself here

Hello, I come from years of using Debian. I finally got tired of minimal, totally custom desktops. I believe Ubuntu is by far the best desktop OS. As for servers though, you will never find me running anything besides Debian stable (and please, no GUI beyond an http interface).

I am a strong supporter of the Unix philosophy, and I wish certain projects such as gnome would adhere to it more closely. I am also an open source fanatic. I advocate open source software, particularly Ubuntu, whenever I get the chance.

Hi, everyone! Nice to be here!

Yesterday I became assimilated into the Ubuntu Hive as I finally gave the axe to Linpus Linux Lite on my two first generation Acer Aspire One SSD netbooks.

Natty seems to run very nicely for the most part. I KNOW it's much more useful than LLL ever was.

Re: Welcome to the Forums - Introduce yourself here

    Hi there,

I am new to the Ubuntu Forums, although i have been experimenting with Linux (Ubuntu in particular) for some time now. I have a keen interest in all types of computing activities. Although my main enjoyment is in programming and security.

The reason i have joined onto the Ubuntu forum is because i have tried many distros of linux and Ubuntu by far has been my favourite. I hope to pass on some of my experiences to other members of the forum, but also hope to gain information and tips and advice through other members.

The whole Ubuntu generation and creation is astounding, and the life on these forums is huge.

Hope to speak with all of you again through these threads!
