Re: Welcome to the Forums - Introduce yourself here

    rigel4,

    Welcome to the Ubuntu forums.

I've moved your thread into the Introductions sticky. We have a lot of different forums. Some are support-oriented while others are more social (such as the Community Cafe). We have a forum for upcoming releases currently in testing (in Development & Testing), and a lot more.

Your post could be in several forums, but as there wasn't a specific support request I've placed it in the Introductions sticky of the Community Cafe.

You can see the different forums available by clicking the "Ubuntu Forums" link at the top left of most pages.

We hope you will enjoy these forums, will be able to obtain help when needed, and provide help when able.

    Happy Ubuntu-ing !

    Hello from Lakeland, Florida!

I am just a 40 year old dude with a graying beard that digs open source computing, classic computing and retro gaming.

I do have a day job managing 10 Windows Administrators and 3 *nix SysAdmins.

Welcome to the Ubuntu Forums Derxst. There are gray beards lurking around here, you'll just have to speak up a bit for us to hear you.

So being new to the forum, just thought i'd say hello

I'm not new to Ubuntu because i had it back when it was version 3 but was always having problems with it so went back to Windows. Now with a new pc built, i thought i'd get it again only this time being 10.10 and still having Windows on partition.

This 10.10 is soo much better from last time! Plus going from Celeron to quad core sorta help lol.

Only have a few let downs and that's not being able to use Jetaudio as well as Windows uses it, and installing stuff through Wine is making the programs very buggy(call me a slight noob i guess).

Still going well though and using Ubuntu more than Windows. Saying that I've used Windows once since i installed Ubuntu and that was about a month ago.
Give VirtualBox a try. You can build a Windows virtual machine and "power it up" when you need it, and leave it shut down when you don't!

Re: Welcome to the Forums - Introduce yourself here

    Hey everyone,
New guy here, I'm a 25 year old who grew up learning Mac and Windows, and got to a point where both of them drove me crazy, so I recently made the switch to Linux. I'm loving the challenge of learning it, and Ubuntu has made it unbelievably easy to make the transition. I'm excited to be part of the community, and I'm still in awe at how helpful everyone is.

I'm a writer and studio guitar player in my spare time, and I'm very anxious to see what Linux is capable of regarding music programs. Cheers!
