Re: Welcome to the Forums - Introduce yourself here

    Hello everyone,

I'm new in this forum and in Ubuntu in general. I'm a software consultant from Buenos Aires, and I'm having experience with Lubuntu since January, so this is all fresh and a source of knowledge for me.

    Saludos

    Greetings!
The name is Rich and I have been a Linux/UBUNTU user for about 5 years now. Started by building a new machine and installing Windows 8/10. After seeing how really bad it was decided to give Linux a try. Now have Linux on three of my systems (still have Win-XP on an legacy system where the application will not run under Linux). Also I am an Amateur (ham) radio operator for 42 years with an Extra class license.

    Hello,

I am Alex aka Carbon aka JoyFreak. I found this forum online. I am a webmaster and owner of a gaming community. I decided to sign up to this community because it looks absolutely beautiful and wanted to support it by doing so! I am also an avid gamer. Great job on the design guys! Hope I get a warm welcome .

    Many thanks!

Re: Welcome to the Forums - Introduce yourself here

Hi everyone. I recently purchased this HP laptop at a local pawn shop, and it came with Windows 10. I liked that, for a Microsoft product, but some things about it were annoying. Like, correct me if I'm wrong, but it seems to me Windows 10 is AI, so it tries to "learn" your habits and preferences and tailor its actions accordingly. Unfortunately a result of this approach is that things keep changing, and especially if MY style is still evolving, this can throw you for a loop. Ironic, since they are ostensibly trying to supply a better and easier user experience. In retrospect, I really like an OS that just does what you want it to do without all the bells and whistles.

So a friend of mine introduced me to Linux Mint Cinnamon (Tessa). I installed it after creating a Windows bootable reinstall thumb drive. I liked it a lot, and sat with that for several weeks, in the meanwhile doing a little research into all the different flavors of Linux. I finally settled on Ubuntu Studio (Disco Dingo). I installed it and it has been operating pretty smoothly. I'm getting better at using the terminal. I even ran a few commands, successfully, without help from the forums. So I'm starting to become familiar with the Linux kernel itself, and I note that once you start to get the hang of it it's pretty intuitive,

Recently I wanted more storage space so I reformatted the stick I had had Windows 10 reinstall on. So that was my decision to renounce Windows entirely and not look back. And the road ahead looks sunny! So this is my intro post, and thanks a million to everyone who helps here on the forum! I look forward to many happy years!
