Thumbs up Re: Welcome to the Forums - Introduce yourself here

    Hallo, everybody.....I'm yet ANOTHER Mike.

I've been playing about with these things since the late 70's. Started out with a Sinclair ZX80 (gawd, what a horrible 'keyboard'), and soon graduated to something with a proper one .....a Commodore 64.

Lost track of the machines I've used over the years. I've used MyCrudSoft all the way from 3.1 through to Win 7 (didn't like it, OR Vista (who did?)). I decided to try Linux back in late April this year; downloaded a bunch of different distros (Fedora, OpenSuse, Ubuntu, Zorin, various Puppies.....Mint, LinuxPC OS; the list goes on...). Figured out early on that Ubuntu was really easy to work with, and I'm one of those odd folk who actually like Unity!

I migrated fully back in May.

I look after an elderly relative full-time, so it gives me a bit of spare time to indulge one of my favourite hobbies. I've been really impressed with the level of expertise in these forums, along with a LOT of friendliness, and a general willingness to help other folk out.....you're a great bunch. I hope I can manage to give back as much to the community as I've already received; I don't for a moment doubt that I shall be learning up until the day I start pushing the daisies through...!

Just wanted to say "hi", and to tell everybody....I'm hooked.

    Regards,

    Mike.

@Mike: you're not odd...lots of us here like Unity
There's just a rather vocal minority here that doesn't...so sometimes you can get the impression that they are the majority
    And, Welcome...

    Hi, Craig.

Actually, it's funny you should have mentioned that. I've just been playing about in Xubuntu, and made it look rather 'Gnome'-like (lol)...

At least, I did, after I'd figured out the business of leaving ONE separator in the transparent AND expanded condition; THAT'S what keeps things at both ends of the taskbar; yay!

Nah, I like Unity; but I've also got a bit of a soft spot for the way Gnome looks. I'm an inveterate 'tweaker'; can't leave things alone for too long now, can I? And running no fewer than six distros (seven if you count Puppy 'Slacko' on the thumbdrive!), well.....gives me ENDLESS hours of fun, and LOTS to play around with. Funny thing is, I actually haven't 'tweaked' Ubuntu for almost a month now; I've actually got it how I want it, now. *Gasp; quelle horreur.....sacre bleu!*

Never mind; still got several others to tweak. I'm having more fun than I have had for YEARS...

    Regards,

    Mike.

Like Bashing said. xfce is highly configurable. Welcome Mike (and all newcomers).

Re: Welcome to the Forums - Introduce yourself here

    Hi, Bucky.

I don't think I shall install xfce in Ubuntu; I like Unity too much for that. But I'm having a whale of a time playing about with it in Xubuntu, where it is, of course, the DE by default.

I prefer to configure the various DEs in their default scenario, i.e., in the distro where they're installed as standard..!

    But I DO like it...

    Regards,

    Mike.
