GLib-WARNING **: getpwuid_r(): failed due to unknown user id (0)

Currently running 10.04. Just did some updates and when it finished rebooting it just doesn't work right. Whenever I click on my user name to enter my password it freezes for 3-5 seconds then the screen reloads. If I do Ctrl+Alt+F7 I get this error(the title of the thread). I have no earthly idea what this means but everything was working great until I did my updates just a couple hours ago.

    Anyone know what's going on??

    EDIT 2011-03-02:

The problem is solved for the 10.04.2 ISO:
    https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+s...th/+bug/649917

    For 10.10:
If the installation goes well, the bug will be fixed when you apply the latest updates. If installing gives trouble, post 176 later in this thread will tell you how to install.

If you install Buntu 17.10 remember to download a new ISO file.

Old files might contain a bug which can damage UEFI hardware. Updating an existing installation and upgrading to 17.10 (if one has faith in upgrades in general) are safe.

    10.04 install fails at bootsplash:
I use LiveUSB to install Ubuntu 10.04 Final, on my pc, when bootsplash is running, Error messages:
GLib-WARNING **: getpwuid_r(): failed due to unknown user id (0)
    stdin: error 0
    stdin: error 0
    stdin: error 0
    stdin: error 0
    stdin: error 0
But, in my father 's pc, no problem.
Is that bug ? How to fix ?
(I'm Vietnamese, so English level is very low, sorry )

Do you also get the error when booting from a CD?

seen the report, you may try with unetbootin

I get it when booting the retail (release) version of 10.04...

I have filed a new bug report by booting into my Ubuntu 9.10 and running "ubuntu-bug linux" in a terminal, then using the "getpwuid_r(): failed due to unknown user id (0)" as a error message." as the topic for the bug.

Good. Please link to the bug report so people with the same problem can add their findings in the same report rather than opening a new one.

    Absolutely.

Its this one: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+s...ux/+bug/572279. I picked it when bug reporting so my system info would get added to their database. Post #5 in that thread is mine, with some info about duplicate bug reports I found for this bug.
