    Blender...easy to use?

As of right now i'm learning blender since i need something for my web design which cannot be done on inkscape like a super glossy 3d orb...is there a tough learning curve?

At first look: blender does seem complicated

If you follow tutorials, you should be fine.
It's pretty easy to learn and if you get stuck, there's LOTS of tutorials online.

    Have fun blending

ok first, if by super glossy you mean reflections from the material and the environment on your scean then you´re on the right track with blender, although i´ve seen inkscape do a very good job at that to, alas fake, by a 3d modeler standard.
second, yes blender seams difficult at the begininig but once you the hang of it is really easy, even more now with the 2.5betas and alphas, and a soon 2.6.
so, learn blender the easy way, try the tuts on youtube, vimeo, etc. and happy blending.

Blender is easy enough to use...but, it's got tuns of functionality, so it takes some effort to get comfortable.

Yea...i'm reading tutorial but i still can't do a thing

I may go to lynda.com to learn from the video tutorial since i have an acc there.

No doubt with enough skill, inkscape can produce the type of orb i mean...i remembered seeing one of deviantart but i can't find it now...cause the orb isn't your normal "gradient" orb that we see everywhere, it really is something that is done in a 3d program...if i can find it i'll post the image here to let you guys see and judge if inkscape can produce that kind of 3d...even if it can it will require some neat skills.

    Found it:

    Re: Blender...easy to use?

Here is one I had a quick go at ..... you can modify it easily ......

The spheres were created using wings3d and imported into blender as 3ds files ....

If you want to download this file and open it in blender ....... it gives you the basics for having a go
your self ..... at creating the type of effect you showed in the last post ......

    http://sites.google.com/site/blender...edirects=0&d=1

This is the picture of it rendered ....... its in slices too ...... so you can move them around to suit ......
The icons need mapping onto the surfaces ...... if you have them ..... or if you need any help send me a PM

Full size picture below ..... added a envelope to one sphere .....

    http://i42.tinypic.com/dhfzb4.jpg

Jonathon Williamson videos are good too .... try this one .....

I am also going to try to help as I go along ...... by setting Projects to work through and including files and
videos once I work out the best way to do this ..... here is a link if anyone is interested ,,,,

wow cool but there is 1 thing, why is the orb not completely round, how do i view it like a smooth orb? So far in my tutorial i haven't read on how to do that yet...haha but i made a guess to render it and still it looks pixelated...

    Re: Blender...easy to use?

There is a reason ...... there are at least 3 different types of spheres that can be used .... the example
that I used previously was a Wings3D sphere .... as this is the 3D program I know how to use ,,,,

Blender takes some time to learn ....... if you want quick results use Wings3D and import the 3Ds files into
Blender ....... if you want to learn Blender ..... take your time and understand the keys and navigation
    system first ......

I have done a short video to show these ......

Here is the file to download ...... for the shot above ... good smooth and all blender surfaces .....
    http://sites.google.com/site/blender...edirects=0&d=1

    Hopefully it will help ....

I will do the model again using the Blender Sphere as this renders much smoother ,,,, this can easily be created ....

    __________________________________________________ _________________________________________

Here is a basic file with just the spheres in it ........ and some lighting .....
    http://sites.google.com/site/blender...edirects=0&d=1

You-Tube video here ..... shows the type of sphere to use in Blender to achieve a better result ....

    http://www.youtube.com/user/23dornot23d

This is my first attempt at recording in linux and the sound seems to lag behind the video for some reason .....
just explaining the problem with sound sync to video - The videos always carry on well after the sound stops .......

By adjusting the lighting you can get better results too ...... you will find that when you render it
the reflections look a lot better ...... there are other factors to consider when doing this too the colors and other surfaces
around which will also alter the look of this scene ......

Try this link ...... files and more information are available here .... http://sites.google.com/site/blender...ments/project4
