Newbie problem with brightness adjustment

Hi guys

Not new to linux, but not so good at command line stuff so please bear with me. I installed the latest version of ubuntu remix for netbooks on my toshiba nb300-108. Absolutely love it, except....i cant adjust the brightness level via the F keys and cant find an option within ubuntu to doit either. Its a function thats quite important to me as i like to prolong my battery life. Any ideas much appreciated.
