Hows everybody liking the Ubuntu One music store?

Just checked it out in Rhythmbox, I'm quite pleased with 7digitals selection.

Wow cool! I didn't know the store was out yet (I'm using 10.4 and I've been checking Rhythmbox everyday to see if the update was out) so when I read this post I checked again - and the it was there!

Yep the store's really cool, it looks nice, works fast, and is better than I expected.

So it just opened today? Cause I checked yesterday.

Edit: Nice, that's a sexy looking store. With that and the new sexy software center, I'm quite impressed.
Edit 2: Actually, it's butt ugly once you move beyond the front page, but I'll still purchase music from them. Good prices, decent selection, and most of all it supports Ubuntu!

I'm not particularily happy about them going with MP3, and only MP3-format.

I would most likely have considered purchasing music there (it looks like a really nice store) if they had offered lossless quality and/or high quality OGG/Vorbis files.

Does any one know how much ubuntu(or is it canonical?) will make per mp3 purchase?

    From the Wiki page:

Q: What are the details about the music in the Ubuntu One Music Store?
Songs purchased through the Ubuntu One Music Store are available in high quality 256 kbps (sometimes higher) MP3 audio encoding and without digital rights management (DRM). MP3 purchases can be:

    * burned to a CD any number of times
    * played through any software on any type of computer that you own that supports MP3
    * synced to any MP3-enabled device such as a portable music player

You may occasionally find songs in WMA format. We're working with our partner to remove these songs from the Ubuntu One Music Store. Until this is resolved, we don't recommend purchasing these songs in this format. An MP3 version can typically be found by using the store's search feature.

Update 27 Feb, 2010: There will be no embedded 'watermarks' of any kind on the MP3s in the Ubuntu One Music Store.

Some have asked for songs in other formats such as Ogg Vorbis or FLAC. Acquiring popular songs in this format was not possible at this time, but Canonical will continue to look for future opportunities to improve the quality of the songs found in the Ubuntu One Music Store.

I take it that this is only available in 10.04?

Yes, you can currently access the music store through Rhythmbox in the Beta 1-release of 10.04.

I don't know if they are planning to backport it.

Why is Ubuntu involved in commercial sales of any product?
