backslash and pipe key are inputting <>

I have a slight issue here on My asus G60 laptops keyboard the backslash and the pipe key are inputing < when i try to use the backslash and > when i hold shift to use the pipe. I'm on 9.10 64 bit Ubuntu. I already went into the keyboard settings and changed the layout to Asus laptop but that did not help and have the same result that it was on the generic 105 key layout. Any help will be well appreciated.
