    Installation problem

I am new to Linux. I want to install Linux on my old PC in office, which already has WINDOWS XP (I want dual boot). Due to low RAM size (256MB), I am going to install Xubuntu (suggested in this forum).

During installation, all things happened correctly up to partitioning of Disk. I made three partition i.e. Swap (~1GB, keeping in mind that I can use one more RAM of 256MB), Root (~9GB) and Home (~9GB). After partition, I started installation. Status bar was showing the progress of installation, but after 80-90% progress, it stopped and hanged. I waited for ~1hr, but nothing happened. I check CD and it is correct.

Please help me, what may be going wrong?

    Thanks and regards,
    Amal..

    Re: Installation problem

Did you select "Try Xubuntu" to make sure it would run on your hardware before attempting to install?

If you're trying to install Xubuntu 10.10, you may want to try 10.04.

You may also want to consider the alternate cd install or Lubuntu.

    Re: Installation problem

If you are installing on a really old PC and you are installing the newest version of Xubuntu then there may be incompatibility issues with chip architecture etc. I had this a while back. I'll see if can dig out the thread...

found it - http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1550587 perhaps this is something similar to the message/problem you are getting.
