I have just purchased a new graphic card to spice up things a bit..
I decided to start all over and make a clean Ubuntu install, so i reinstalled just after inserting the hardware.. At startup after updating packages and latest version (9.10) i let the ristricted drivers take care of installing the driver.
That didn't work very well.. when rebooting after the ubuntu icon shows up the first time, the screen goes black and the loading stops tottaly nothing even happened when pressing ctrl-alt-F1.
I overwrited the old xorg.conf with the xorg.conf-backup file and tried to download the driver through ATI's website. I installed their driver, now after rebooting Ubuntu finishes the startup (i can hear the log in sound in the background) while the screen still displays af black screen (now with a "Out of range" message)
After installation of the ati-driver but before i reboot for the first time, i'm not able to enter the ati catalyst center.. i get this message
Does this mean that there are no support for that card yet?Initialization error:
There was a problem initializing Catalyst Control Center Linux edition. It could be caused by the following.
No ATI graphics driver is installed, or the ATI driver is not functioning properly.
Please install the ATI driver appropriate for you ATI hardware, or configure using aticonfig.
Is there anything I can do to get install a working driver??
Hope someone can help..
